Woman or a girl is the most enterprising creature created by the Almighty. India is a land where girls have been worshipped as Goddess since times immemorial. However, on the contrary, it also witnessed atrocities against them in the form of- female foeticide/ infanticide, dowry, domestic violence, etc. Efforts are being undertaken across the world to create awareness against such malpractices and put an end to such atrocities.
With the daunting advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, human civilization is locked up inside their habitat. Quite similar to what animals in zoo experience humans too are now playing the same part. However, the spectator will be COVID-19 Virus if due precautions are not undertaken.
Our society which is clouded with the prejudice of superiority of male over female is surely going to experience major changes. This may sound quite contradictory. But, if assessed closely radical changes may be quite inevitable. Women have been symbolized for taking care of their household chores- cooking, cleaning, raising children and family, while their male counterparts go out to work and earn for their family. This concept has created a social bias in favour of man and against women.
As we all are obeying with the guidelines of the lockdown whether voluntarily or forcefully, both male and female tend to stay locked up. Many are away from their family and many are spending much-awaited quality time with them. This situation has a mixed reaction.
While males are doing their office chores from home, females irrespective of their office jobs are also taking care of the household. She is playing many roles simultaneously. She wakes up early to prepare tea, breakfast. She cleans the house even though she may have appointed a maid. At the same time, she attends calls of other family members. She is always on her toes, mostly in the kitchen so that the family gets served with delicious and nutritious food. She arranges the house, synergizes the family atmosphere with love, care and affection. Just like a salt binds different flavours in the food she binds the entire family in a single unit. While it must not be underestimated the role a male play in running the family and establishing a position for their family in the society.
But because she is physically weaker, she is more empathetic, she is more enduring, her efforts are often neglected or understated. Even if a woman is working just like her husband it is silently understood kitchen and cleanliness is the responsibility of a woman. Husband might get himself a shower take some relaxing moments on a sofa in front of the TV, but, a wife is supposed to cook food no matter how much tired she is. A housewife is not only a housewife, even though she is not earning yet she is playing the toughest role. She is meticulously bearing the responsibility of a cook, maid, mother, sister, wife, daughter, daughter-in-law.
People especially men who unfortunately got trapped alone in their houses will be able to correlate better. It is really hard to realize how much effort it takes to cook, to plan the menu, to deal with the maids, to take care of hygiene and cleanliness, to look after grandparents, to maintain cordial relations, to perform daily worship and a lot more.
A mother who selflessly sacrifices her comforts is still working under this lockdown. A wife who nurtures her in-laws is still synergizing her family atmosphere. A daughter whom a family seldom treats as a “PARAAYA DHANN” is still pampering and playing with her father. A sister who always bothers her little or elder brother is still learning new delicacies and cooking for him. A female employee is still doing work from home to sustain the office activities. There is surely no lockdown for them. She is the Founder, CEO of the toughest and most precious enterprise- FAMILY. A man on the other hand surely has an option to relax or just be contented doing work from home.
Hence, it is a wake-up call for the entire society to give her the impetus which she rightly deserves, to realize the importance for woman empowerment. Taapsee Pannu starer THAPPAD released recently very beautifully depicts the life of an Indian Housewife. She, who always keeps her family first, comprises her desires and ambitions, lives for the dreams of her husband, conducts to uphold the teachings of her mother is surely no lesser than an epitome of relentless serenity.
I request upon the readers to give an unbiased thought to the above propositions. Do not take it as a prejudice. It is completely understood not all disregard the woman fraternity but surely there is something upon which both man and woman need to work upon and synergize the social strings to resonate the melody of life.
